To help you plan your special day, we have listed below a comprehensive to-do-list. Hopefully it should cover most circumstances, although you may find you have to add a few things for your personal circumstances. The list can be printed so that you can tick things off, as you go along.
As Soon As Possible
q Decide on your style or theme and your initial budget
q Check out venues
q Decide on a date, check with preferred venue and registrar or celebrant
q Book date with Registrar (for register office or civil venue ceremony)
q Book venue, including over-night stay
q Book caterer if not included with venue
q Ask caterer or venue if you can sample the menu choices
q Choose wedding party - best man, bridesmaids, ushers, flower girls, page boys..
q Arrange wedding insurance
q If hiring a wedding dress designer do this now, and choose bridal fabric
if designer not supplying the material.
q If hiring a wedding co-coordinator do so now
12 - 9 months to go
q Choose and book musicians / entertainment
q Choose and book photographer / videographer
q Choose and book transport
q Select honeymoon destination and book
q Apply for passport (if travelling abroad) and any other travel requirements
q Check with Doctor if any vaccinations / medications are required for overseas destinations
9 - 6 months to go
q Choose your guest list for ceremony / wedding breakfast / evening reception
q Choose bridal attire
q Choose groom's attire
q Choose attendant's attire
q Select wedding cake company and order
q If ordering handmade items - such as stationery, favours, guest book
or wedding album - choose and order now
6 - 4 months to go
q Select florist and/or flower supplier if doing any of your own flower arrangements
q Order stationery and favours (if not already done)
q Choose venue decorations or hire a venue decorator
q Choose shoes, veils, headdresses and any other accessories
q Arrange wedding gift-list
q Order rings
q Pick up Marriage Notice form from Registrar
q Book hairdresser / beauty therapist / make-up artist
q Arrange for fittings for grooms, ushers, pageboy's etc (for kilt hire, etc)
4 - 2 months to go
q Submit Marriage Notice forms to Registrar
q Send out invitations
q Buy gifts for attendants
q Choose any extra accessories required
q Have a trial make-up / hair-do sitting
q Inform DJ / Entertainer choice of first dance
q If hiring table linen arrange this now
About 2 months to go
q Arrange final fittings for wedding dress / bridesmaids outfits
q Any children should be measured up for hired outfits (such as kilts)
as close to date as shop advises, to allow for growth
q Prepare initial seating plans
q Check all travelling documents and requirements
q Choose eco-friendly confetti
1 month to go
q Review seating plans as RSVPs come in
q Inform venue / caterer of final numbers
q Inform stationer of names for place cards and menu details if required
q Keep record of who is giving what gifts (if gift list in place this will be recorded for you)
q Check all dress wear and accessories
q Arrange rehearsal if an option
q Arrange hen/stag parties
2 weeks to go
q Confirm all arrangements with suppliers
q Make sure all speeches have been prepared
1 week to go
q Pick up Marriage Schedule or meet with registrar if required
q Ensure best man has rings and cash for services to be paid on the wedding day
2 - 1 days to go
q Pick up hired dress wear
q Pack over-night stay bags and / or going away bags.
